Feeling overwhelmed with anxiety? There are solutions.

Do you ever experience overwhelming feelings of anxiety? Have you ever found yourself obsessing and thinking about things?  Have you ever felt that this cycle of thinking is adding to your stress and anxiety?

Brett Williams has some suggestions for you. Our brains evaluate everything that is happening to us.  Brett calls this aspect of our brain the Think-a-rater.

He has a method for controlling your anxiety by using a Pattern Interrupt.   Sometimes our think-a-rater miscalculates and rates a particular situation really high, at a ten, when in reality it probably a much lower number.

The trick is to recalibrate your think-a-rater.  Look at it the situation and assign it a more realistic number.  Ask your self, is this life or death or just slightly annoying?

Watch this video where Brett shares his own story of controlling his anxiety by adjusting his think-a-rater.

Stress and Strategies to Manage It

Are you feeling stressed?  Do you suddenly feel that uncomfortable feeling of anxiety and stress?

There are ways to manage your stress.  It helps to have some ready to use strategies for managing your stress.

Brett R. Williams, MFT has two suggestions for managing stress.

1. Note all the self care you do when you are in a non stressed situation.  When you are on vacation or relaxing on a weekend, you may find that you sleep better, take a walk, spend time with friends. When you find yourself moving into a high stress situation choose to continue those self care behaviors. Perhaps take a short walk or call a friend to get together with.

2. Adjust your thinkerator. Everything that happens in your life your brain tends to evaluate on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being very high, life and death a critical situation. But everything is not a 10.  Think about the situation that is causing you stress and assign it a realistic number, which will bring the stress level down.
